I got the above picture from Randy Perterman’s blog.

I just heard on a podcast the insinuation that we’re all sinners. I can’t stand this since as Christians we have been identified with the righteousness of Christ rather than the wretchedness of sin.

My first response to it was disagreement. The bible states clearly that we were all sinners. Is he trying to whitewash and ignore this element of sin as some are in the habbit of doing so in Singapore. (I’ve developed a pretty cynical attitude these days. haha)

Then I read through and realise he wasn’t totally wrong. The key thing to remember is that we were all sinners, sinners who cannot be redeemed. Yet while we were sinners, Christ died for us.

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Rom 5:8

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 2 Cor 5:17

We’re now new creations. And this has the implication of having the holy spirit in you, walking by the spirit, and living a life that is Christ like.

Yet this does not take away the fact that we are still sinners. I think the picture states it very well. For while we are still sinners, we are now justified by the grace of God

But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it– the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, Rom 3:21-24

As Peter Randyman says, we’re now more like conquerors. :D

The truth is… we are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.

the dilemma and confusion is that we are both flesh and spirit. adding to the complexity is how righteousness is defined in the world and not of the world positionally. and finally, the big picture. how do we see it from the global perspective in the kingdom of god!

and the sad reality among our fellow believers is you generally cant differentiate one from someone who is not. goes to show we may have our theology all wrong!

    passerby,

i totally agree with you that the theology is queationable. christ should be seen in the perspective of:

Mat 21:35 And the vinedressers took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another.
Mat 21:36 Again he sent other servants, more than the first, and they did the same to them.
Mat 21:37 But last of all he sent his son to them, saying, They will respect my son.
Mat 21:38 But when the vinedressers saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir. Come, let us kill him, and get hold of his inheritance.
Mat 21:39 And taking him, they threw him out of the vineyard and KILLED him.

one need to ask, who were the vinedressers? what was the death of god’s servants( who are true prophets) and the eventual death of His Son all about?

dying for sins could be just….dying for a holy cause rather than what the theologians have been telling us!

I feel that in order to define who we are we must first understand the definition of that which we are implying that we might be, i.e. “are we still sinners?”. My understanding of sin is that the Hebraic definition means “missing the mark” which would suggest to me that we first have to be aiming for the mark in the first place before it can even be missed. My personal view is that the mark is obedience to Gods Will. I would certainly like to see more people clarify the difference, in Gods attitude between sin and wickedness. As for me wickedness is the act of not even trying to obey Gods Will, and Sin is the act of trying to obey Gods Will in ones life but failing to do so. Another words what most people would consider a “mistake”. Now by no means does this justify sin, the consequence of sin and wickedness do not differ outside of the existence of salvation. Here enters the crucifixion. Jesus steps in and takes the final consequence of sin in our place as a Perfect Sacrifice, so that we might have the same intimate relationship with God that lead Jesus to make that sacrifice for us and so that we might be redeemed in the sight of God to the fullness of our purpose. Even though we are still sinners, sin is no longer the issue between Humanity and God. Salvation has made the way for Faith to be the defining issue between us and him. And Faith can only be established through a relationship that is defined by Hope, Truth, and Love.
In my opinion to often Christians define their identity by the Sin they have been saved from rather than the Faith that salvation has given them. When God is trying to move us forward in Faith we become preoccupied with holding on to the sins of our past and present.

When the woman cought in adultery was brought to Jesus Christ, Jesus told her :”Sin no more”. What does that mean? How can a person still be a sinner when he/she is not sinning anymore? Sin is a moment of feeling that turn away from God’s will, and is not supported by faith. For example, when you are eating something you are not sure if it’s eatable, you feel stumbled, uncertain, that’s sin! So it matters more that we don’t sin anymore, not if we are sinners or not. All we have to do is to do what God commands.

ASK YOUR SELF THIS THEN WHY DOES HE CALL US SAINTS?

    Romans 1:7 (Whole Chapter)
To all in Rome who are loved by God and called to be saints: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.

ARE WE SINNERS OR ARE WE SAINTS?

GOD BLESS YOU BROTHER THIS IS NOT A ARGUMENT.

If we have access to the thrown of God..there is no way that we are sinners,, sin cannot not enter heaven
but we are declared sinnless befor a rightouse God..
We also have been declared Rightouse through Christ Jesus.

If you believe in the Death and Buriel and resurrection
Than yes you are saved..you are believeing the God that sent Jesus in the likeness of man..though he did not sin.. he bare the sins of the whole world.. because
we were without hope and far from god.. because of the fall of adam the man…but with the new Adam we have life..
Which is Christ Jesus…Father God Knows that in the flesh you are not perfect and you will sin.. but in the spirit
you are made perfect.. You need to renew your minds with the word of God.. where ever the mind is the heart will follow.. so let the word dwell richly in you .. and you will not fullfill the lust of the flesh.. man falls when he is lured by his own desires that are in the flesh.. God says to kill it.. reckon your selfs dead..
