In the morning, O LORD , you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation.
Psalms 5:3
In psalms 4, the evning was described as a good time for reflection. In Psalms 5 is shown as a good time for reflection.
David teaches us much about prayer in this short psalm. The words he use for laying his requests, are the same ones that are used for carefully arranging wood on an altar, or for arranging the showbread on the table in the tabernacle. This shows are sacred prayer is, yet each of us are given the privelage of prayer, as God’s children.
In faith, David waits in expectation. We should always trust God for an answer to our prayers.
David’s prayer consists of 3 types of request.
- give ears to my words – Well thought out petitions
- Consider my sighing – things that we can’t express in words
- listen to my cry – emotive cries
David also adresses God as
- the Lord
- My God
- My King
How priveleged we are to be able to present our prayers directly to the Creator of the Universe. David also prays to God as the soverign King, the God of the covenants, and also, his personal God.
Our prayers should have purpose, our words are secondary to the spirit of prayer, our prayers should be heartfelt with emotion, they are directed to a personal God, we should pray morning by morning, we should wait expectantly for an answer.
