During an engineering tutorial today, the professor was going around asking us questions, like definitions of certain terms. When it came to me. He wrote the following on the transperency
10000 + 1 =
And he asked me what’s the answer. To say that i was stunned, is an understatement. And his last zero didn’t look very neat, and I was just wondering whether it was some symbol that I totally missed out. Because his handwriting wasn’t all too good. But in the end, i ventured:
ten thousand and one?
He asked if I was sure, and proceeded to ask the guy behind me the very same question. And the same answer was given. He went down the row for a few people, until somebody finally tried a different answer. Ten Thousand.
And that was the correct answer. The point he was trying to make is that in primary school, you would get wrong if you had answered ten thousand, but in tertiary education, adding 1 to a big number, is insignificant. 10001 is a meaningless number!
So what’s my point here. One thing that we can think about is what we consider as meaningful and meaningless in our lives. What are we coped up with, busy with, struggling with. Are they all meaningful?
And if we have all eternity in heaven to do all that we want, what’s the One meaningful thing that we should be doing with our lives now?
