In the light of Good friday. The sharing below may help to give you
the true meaning of good friday and easter sunday. So enjoy
reading….but bear with me with the length
This week is Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Well, too many they are
just another public holiday, a time to stay at home or a time to be
out with friends and loved ones.
Firstly, what is so SIGNIFICANCE about GOOD FRIDAY and EASTER SUNDAY?
Jesus was crucified at the cross. Crucifixion is the worst form of
capital punishment of the Romanian law for criminal. Jesus had not
committed any crime and there was not any basis to which Jesus should
be crucified.
‘ Pilate called together the chief priests, the rulers and the people,
and said to them,” You brought me this man (Jesus) as one who was
inciting the people to rebellion. I have examined him in your presence
and have found no basis for your charges against him, Neither has
Herod, for he sent him back to us; as you can see, he has done nothing
deserving death.; Luke 23:13-15
Yet Jesus was mocked, suffered and died on the cross as predicted
despite having committed no crime. This is God’s purpose so that in
Jesus’ death, God’s justice and mercy could meet. It is at the cross
that God’s justice and mercy is fully dealt.
Think about this:
Is it fair if a murderer runs scot free without any penalty?
What would you do to the murderer to uphold justice?
Would you dine with the murderer if he murdered your loved one?
Can justice and mercy meet at all?
Once we were created in God’s image to live with a purpose. That is
for us to live in relationship with our Creator, God and to live under
God’s rulership. God saw all that he had made and it was very good.
But we deliberately choose to live otherwise. Adam and Eve eating the
apple is indeed a common knowledge to many, but few knew the
significance of this act. It was not about eating the forbidden fruit
(btw, it was not mentioned in the bible that it was an apple) that
angered God. Adam and Eve took the fruit when they saw the fruit was
pleasing to the eye and they desired to be like God. It is our
deliberate disobedience and act of wanting to be God ourselves, to
live God-given life our on way that angered God. This the bible called
SIN. Everyone sin. We displayed our arrogance towards God in every
aspect of our life; do we acknowledge God as the boss of our life?
Never. In our selfishness, we consider ourselves first than others
because we think we have all right to live the way we want to. We
forgot about God’s right to have us live the good purposed life He set for
us all.
‘ For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.’ Romans 3:23
‘ The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the
godlessness and wickedness of men who suppressed the truth by their
wickedness.” Romans 1:18
For justice to hold, we are under God’s judgement and death awaits us
because of SIN. However the dilemma comes with God’s compassion on us.
The solution is Jesus. In order to uphold justice, Jesus paid the
penalty of our SIN, falling under God’s judgement and death was upon
him. On Good Friday, Jesus paid the penalty so that we the culprit
could go scot free and given a chance, mercy to enjoy life in perfect
relationship with the God that was broken as a result of our rebellion
against God. An analogy would be like an orphan who can be reconciled
to his parents and be living under their provision and care.
‘ You are looking for Jesus, who was crucified, He has risen! He is
not in the tomb.’ Mark 16:6
Jesus rose from death on Easter Sunday, on the third day after his
crucifixion. It is crucial for Jesus be risen, otherwise, I can die
for you and you can die for me and be both set free from the judgement
of SIN, All of us sin and therefore cannot save each other. How can a
drowned person save another drowned person? But Jesus rose and has
victory over death. Therefore, anyone who acknowledge that he/she is a
undeserving sinner and Jesus is the his/her saviour and Lord, To want
to live the beautiful life in relationship with God, have fully
understood the reason behind this public holiday,
Well, I have understood Good Friday and finally chosen to live the
beautiful life under God’s rulership on good friday 1994 after being
told of this message over and over. What about you my friends?
