Convenant: A binding agreement giving responsibility to both parties of the covenant.
Man was created to have a interpersonal relationship with God.
Man had 3 benefits, as given to Adam.
- A true purpose in work. Gen 2:15
- Knowledge of the truth through divine revelation. Gen 2:18
- Morality, with the promise of Eternal life
Yet all these were lost when man rebelled.
But the solution was provided through Jesus Christ, who is:
- The way
- The truth
- and the life
Covenant
Divine Commitment
- To generate faith
- That HIS people may confidently trust HIM to do so
Divine requirement
- To generate obedience
All Covenants between Man and God:
- Do not contradict
- All connect to one another
- Effective in strengthening faith and obedience
- Establishing a believing and obedient people for HIMSELF
A new Covenant: Established by Jesus Christ
- Law will be written to the NEW heart of the people. Jer 31:31,33
- Jesus is the author and perfecter of our faith
- The perfect sacrifice
- Eternal priesthood (for the followers of Christ
- Eternal King (Establishing the kingdom of God
Jesus as a guarantor of our response to God.
