Leading in to the Bridge Illustration:

Experience has shown that it is helpful to have a few statements and questions in mind to help open the door for presenting the Gospel. Often an ideal time to share the Gospel is after a person has heard your personal testimony. (Example: “Well, that’s my story, Jim. How about you? Have you ever thought much about becoming a Christian?”) If there is time to talk further you might say, “You know, Jim, there’s a little diagram that I’ve been working on that shows what the Bible says a Christian is and to know for sure you have eternal life. If you have a few minutes, I’d like to sketch it out for you and see what you think.”

Another lead-in to the Bridge might be a question like, “Jim, here’s a thought provoking question for you. “If you were to die tonight do you know where you would spend eternity? Where would you go?”

Once the explanation of the Bridge begins, it should take anywhere from 15-30 minutes to present. Be flexible and sensitive to tailor the presentation to the person or situation. Write and draw the points and illustration as you go, being as neat and clear as possible. Memorize the illustrations and the verses, but it is good to look them up and let them read the Scripture sometimes.
